Troy Schumacher, 55, of Worthington, formerly of Gnadenhutten, passed away on October 16, 2021, in Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, from complications due to Covid-19. Troy was born November 22, 1965, at Twin City Hospital to the late Robert and Donna (Kyte) Schumacher, he was the youngest of their four children.
Troy grew up in Gnadenhutten, graduated from Indian Valley South in 1984 and was involved in football, basketball, and baseball, excelling on the gridiron. He was the Defensive MVP of the Rebel football team in ’82 and ’83. He often said his fondest memories of high school were playing under the “Friday Night Lights!”
After high school, Troy enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving six years as an Electrician’s Mate aboard the Claude V. Ricketts. After his discharge, Troy worked at The Ohio State University in the maintenance department and then worked as a service technician for Deibold.
In his spare time, Troy enjoyed bicycling, having participated in, and completed many bicycle tours of Ohio (GOBA) and North Carolina. He was an avid “techie”, always keeping up with and purchasing the latest high-tech electronic gadgets. He was well known for showing up to family Christmas gatherings in festive holiday attire and then coming up with the funniest “white elephant” gifts.
Surviving are two sisters: Pat Parrish and Teri (Mike) Chappelear both of Columbus; and a brother Jim (Rose) Schumacher of Dover as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
