Norma J. (Neuhart) Thornton

         Norma Jean (Neuhart) Thornton, 93, of Gnadenhutten, died Monday afternoon June 19, 2023, at Trinity Hospital Twin City surrounded by her family.

         She was born in Noble County to the late William and Elvira (Carpenter) Neuhart on July 27, 1929. Norma graduated from Old Washington High School in 1948, then one year later married her late husband Howard J. Thornton on November 26, 1949, and were married for sixty-eight years before his death on January 25, 2018. The two of them were faithful members of the Church of Christ for many years. Norma enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

          Surviving are Norma and Howard’s two children: Roger (Debbie) Thornton of Dennison, and Lori (Mike) Sweitzer of Gnadenhutten, three grandchildren Justin (KaLee) Sweitzer, Katie Sweitzer, and Darcy (Dale) Gribble, three great-grandchildren Maddee Gribble, Xander Sweitzer, and Kyler Gribble; many nieces and nephews, and her grand-dog Gracie.

          Graveside services will be held for Norma on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Evangelist Bob Main will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, Norma’s family requested that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County. Memorial contributions may be made at www.kochfhgnaden.com.
