Obituary

Michael W. Kohl, 76, of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly on the evening of Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Mike was born on December 10, 1945 in Dennison, Ohio to the late Homer and Helen (Ellwood) Kohl. He graduated from Gnadenhutten High School in 1965, and then served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. Mike is a 52 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18 where he spent 34 years working at various companies operating heavy equipment, the last being fifteen years at Edw. C. Levy Co. where he retired in 2004.

Mike was a collector of many things. Mike spent most every day at his garage. He had many treasures: motorcycles, including his Harley, a few classic cars, and most anything you might ever need. Mike loved to plant and take care of his garden every year. He also enjoyed hunting and going to the dragstrip.

On September 5, 1965, Mike married Patricia (Rose) Kohl, who survives. They spent fifty-five years together before his passing on Wednesday. Also surviving are his three children: Lori Kohl of New Philadelphia, Shari (Kevin) Sharrock of Newcomerstown, and Michael (Brianne) Kohl of North Carolina; five grandchildren: Haley Smith, Briar, Tucker, and Arrington Sharrock, and Alice Kohl; two great-grandchildren: Nolan Smith, and Lakelyn Rucker; two sisters: Nancy Williams and Joyce (Phil) Garrett; two sisters-in-law: Mary Lee Smith and Sherry Bea Rose, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Mike is preceded in death by two grandsons: Ryan Richard Smith and Kohl Sharrock, a brother-in-law Shink Williams, and a special nephew Frank Williams.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten, 244 N. Walnut St., Gnadenhutten, Ohio 44629.
