Obituary

          Mary Jo (Wallace) Hibinger, 92, of New Philadelphia passed away Saturday morning of April 2, 2022, at the Community Hospice’s Truman House. She was born in Akron on November 6, 1929, to the late Atty. W. Ralph and Gladys (Boyter) Wallace of Moorefield. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1947 and then married the late Clayton “Buss” Hibinger on September 3, 1948. He preceded her in May of 1993.

          Mary Jo was a member of the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten and was active with Martha’s Quilters. She also volunteered her time for many years to the coffee bar and information desk at the former Twin City Hospital and at the events that occurred at the Schoenbrunn Village. She belonged to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and the YMCA. Mary Jo enjoyed traveling, taking numerous bus trips with friends and family.         

          Surviving are two sons: Stephen Hibinger of Cumberland and Jeff (Judy) Hibinger of New Philadelphia, a daughter-in-law Joyce Hibinger of Port Washington, a special friend Phyllis Hibinger of Caldwell, seven grandchildren: Jill Myers (companion Lewie Pugh), Joe Hibinger, Bryan (Schelly Slechter) Hibinger, Kenney Hibinger, Melissa (Gary) Stahl, Stephanie (Tommy) Johnson, and Tiffany (Michael) Lawrence; eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

          Along with her parents and husband, Mary Jo was preceded by a son, K. Bruce Hibinger, a brother, Bill Wallace, and a sister Margaret Wright.

          Services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten, 244 N. Walnut St., with Pastor Dave Geyer officiating. Burial will follow at Fry’s Valley Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church, P.O. Box 126, Gnadenhutten, Ohio 44629, or to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
