Glenn Earl Gray, 87, of Gilmore passed peacefully at home in the early morning hours of December 31, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Glenn was born in Gilmore on July 3, 1934, to the late John and Olive (Frasher) Gray. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1952, and then attained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana in 1955. Glenn worked for Joy Manufacturing, then Dover Conveyer before starting his own business, Gray-Eering Ltd. in 1979, making emergency escape hoists and other industrial equipment.
Glenn enjoyed traveling, having visited all around the western U.S., as well as overseas to Switzerland. In the spirit of his love of travel, Glenn learned to fly and obtained his license as a pilot. When not traveling or farming, Glenn kept busy as an amateur radio enthusiast, operating under the call sign “W8ECM” and watching WVU basketball games. Glenn was an active member of the West Union Methodist Church in Gilmore.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Carol (Wilson Rhodes) Gray, whom he married December 12, 2009. In addition to his wife, Glenn is survived by his children he shared with his late wife, Sue Ann (West) Gray who preceded him in death in April 2009: Tracey (Harry) Huggins of Dover, Lainard (Sandra) Gray and Jay (Lisa) Gray both of Gilmore; grandchildren: Christopher (Tara) Gray, Amanda (Brandon) Miller, Danielle (Andy) McMillen, Jayson (Allyson) Gray; great-grandchildren: Kaylah O’Donohue, Braedon Gray, Harper Miller, Olivia McMillen, Aidan McMillen, Isaac McMillen, and Wyatt Gray.
In addition to his parents and late wife, Glenn was preceded in death by his siblings: Helen Allgyer, Mildred Hoffman, Paul Gray, and Harold Gray.
Private family services will be held in celebration of Glenn’s life. Memorial contributions may be made in memoriam of Glenn to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
