Esther Mae (McCracken) Sellers

          Esther Mae Sellers, 86, of Gnadenhutten, OH passed away June 4th, 2021 on her 66th wedding anniversary, while surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Lester and Helen (Butler) McCracken, four sisters, Lois Brown, Erma Smailes, Audrey Baker and Alice Wallace, three brothers Gary McCracken, James McCracken, and Ellsworth McCracken, her son, Joel Sellers and a granddaughter, Tiffany Campbell.

          She was born February 6th, 1935, in Fairpoint, OH, as the oldest of 13 children. She graduated from St. Clairsville High School and Ruth Brandt School of Nursing in Martins Ferry. She was a phenomenal ICU and ER nurse, who was always the first person called when they needed an IV started. In 1955, she married Reverend Charles P. Sellers, who preceded her in death in January 1992. Together, they raised 6 children. Esther enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting a blanket for every new baby in the family, playing sudoku, baking, gardening, bird watching and discussing politics. She was an active member of New Pointe Community Church in Dover, OH.

          She is survived by her siblings Anne Stine of Fredericksburg, Sally Singell of Alma, Michigan, Ruth (Floyd) McCleary of Warren, OH, John (Sandy) McCracken of New Rumley, and Dale (Carol) McCracken of Reidsville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her five children, David (Beth) Sellers of Newcomerstown, Debbie Reed of Dover, Heidi (Tim) Peoples of Wisconsin, Wendy (Kevin) Gray of Gnadenhutten and Amy (Kevin) Barton of Scio. Additionally, she is survived by 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Gloria Sellers and an aunt, Hazel Butler.

          A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery starting at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Dwight Mason The family is having a time of gathering at the cemetery one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Pointe Community Church.
