Barbara Jean (Urban) Braun, 87, of Gnadenhutten, passed away early Monday morning on November 9, 2020.
Barb was born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on May 7, 1933 to the late Orland C. and Dora A. (Jones) Urban. She attended school at Uhrichsville until the eleventh grade and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1951. On March 18, 1951, Barb married the late Donald Braun with whom she spent forty-seven years with before his passing in March of 1998.
Barb was a homemaker most of her life but worked as the custodian for the Village of Gnadenhutten, at the town hall, the park, and the museum.
She was an avid cookie cutter collector, so much so, that she is in the Guinness Book of World Records for her collection. She was a member of the National Cookie Cutter Club, serving as president from 1997 to 1998. Barb was also a volunteer at Twin City Hospital, now Trinity Hospital Twin City, for twenty years as of 2019.
Surviving are Barb’s four children: Susan Kay (Lloyd) Crowell of New Philadelphia, Beth (Paul) Russell of Newcomerstown, Donald (companion Darlene Rittmaire) Braun II of Stonecreek, and Bryan (Nichell) Braun of Gnadenhutten; thirteen grandchildren, lots of great-grandchildren, a sister Carlene (John) Gladman of Uhrichsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Barb is preceded in death by siblings Bill, Jack, Don, Nancy, and Terry, a grandson Bucky, and a great-grandson Addison.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Barb’s honor to the Gnadenhutten Public Library, PO Box 216, Gnadenhutten, Ohio 44629.
