Thelma Mae (Fouts) Meek, 84, of Gnadenhutten, went to be with the Lord on the early morning of Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Community Hospice Truman House following a brief illness.
Thelma was born on May 18,1938 to the late William H. and Orpha (Fouts) Fouts in Stillwater, Ohio. She graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1956 and then married the late Gerald "Buster" Meek on May 15, 1960. They spent forty years together before his death in 2000.
Along with her husband and parents, Thelma is preceded in death by a grandson Ryan A. Vitt, sister Ethel M. Stevens, stepmother Mary (Biddlestone) Fouts, two stepsisters, and three stepbrothers.
Surviving are two children: Diana (Randy) Gopp of Sugarcreek, and Gregory Meek of Gnadenhutten; two granddaughters: Christina Vitt of New Philadelphia, and Kaitlin (Jason) Duncan of Canton; three step grandchildren: Jeremy Gopp, Nathan (Megan) Gopp, and Sarah Wilson; five great-grandchildren: Caleb, Liam, Aliana, Kaisonn, and Jaslin; a brother Charles E. (Mae) Fouts of Georgia, and sister-in-law Arlene (Larry) Fontana of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, who all loved her dearly.
Thelma was a very devoted member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church, faithfully attending for over fifty years. She was also active within the church, being a member of the Gleaners Sunday School, the United Methodist Women's Rebecca Circle, and helping with many of the funeral luncheons held at the church. She was also part of a card ministry, with the church and herself, sending out hundreds of cards to people every year. When she was away from the church, Thelma enjoyed walking every day, and spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Calling hours for Thelma will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with a funeral service starting at 1:00 P.M. officiated by Pastor Hyun Suk Kim and Pastor Susan Stevens. All held at the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery.
