Obituary

Robert Eugene Long, 66, of Gnadenhutten, died Friday afternoon on March 20, surrounded by his family in the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia. Bob was born in Dennison on June 28, 1948 to Robert L. (dec.) and Alice M. Griffith Long. He graduated from Indian Valley South, where he played football and baseball. Bob then entered the Army in August of 1968, served a tour in Vietnam, and was discharged from the Army in August of 1971. Bob went to work for Michigan Sewer Pipe in 1967 until its closure. Bob has worked for Arizona Chemical since December of 1992.

Bob enjoyed fixing small engines, standing outside watching storms, working with horses, going hunting and fishing, and watching his grandkids. Bob was a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He was also very well known for his rhubarb.

On June 9, 1968, Bob married Vivian Legg, to whom he was married for 46 years.

Bob is survived by his wife, three daughters: Melissa (Ken) Morrison, of Gnadenhutten; Amanda (George) Leeper, of Dennison; and Rebekka (Doug) Waldren, of New Philadelphia; two sons: Rob (Caitlin) Long, of New Philadelphia; and Bradley (Tyler Jackson) Long, of Brooklyn, New York; eight grandchildren: Taylor Gibson, Nick Leeper, Marissa Morrison, McKenzie Morrison, Carter Waldren, Bailey Waldren, Alexis Long, and Ariana Long; four sisters: June (Dave) Davis, of Newark; Joann Mattison, of Dundee; Betty (Everett) Holland, of Gnadenhutten; and Carol Hunt, of Uhrichsville; two brothers: Bill (Paula) Long of Tuscarawas; and  Kenny (Debi) Long, of Gnadenhutten; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his father Robert L. Long; maternal grandparents, Bertha and William Pearl Griffith; and paternal grandparents, Harvey and Annabell Long.

Services for Bob will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church with Rev. John Kelly officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Calling hours also held at the church will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday March 25, 2015 and one hour prior to the service.
