David Wayne Messner, 57, of Port Washington, lost his battle with multiple myeloma after a seven-month fight on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in Dover, but with that loss he was blessed with an eternal life with the Lord.

He was born in Barberton, Ohio to the late Donald W. and Carolyn M. (Withrow) Messner on October 4, 1964. Growing up, Dave played football and baseball for Green High School, where he graduated from in 1983. After high school, he played Class-A Baseball in Tuscarawas County and softball for numerous other teams in Ohio. When he was finished playing, Dave became an umpire for high school and Class A baseball for more than fifteen years.

Dave loved spending time with his family, going on beach vacations, and taking a relaxing trip on a tube down the river. He also enjoyed being the life of the party, playing practical jokes, and giving talks with a helium infused voice. Making people laugh everyday was something that came naturally to him.

He was a member of the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten. He worked for Capitol Tire in Dover for many years retreading tires before going to work in 2006 for Designer Stone in Port Washington.

Surviving are his wife of twenty-eight years, Lisa (Guspyt), whom he married June 12, 1993; his two children: Cody Messner of Dennison and Ashlee Korns and her husband Luke of Port Washington; granddaughter Jersey Mae Messner; siblings; Scott Messner and his wife Rhonda, John Messner and his late wife Diane, Sue Boswell, Pam Isom and husband David, all from Oklahoma, and Beth Wilson and husband Mike from Texas; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ed and Linda Guspyt of Port Washington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ken and Courtney Guspyt, Becky and Jeff Stearns, both of Port Washington, and Laura and Tom Hursey of Newcomerstown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dave was only preceded by his parents.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten, 244 N. Walnut Street, 44629.
