Martha Jean Main

            Martha Jean (McMullen) Main, 72, of Gilmore, died on Wednesday afternoon of June 13, 2018 surrounded by her family. Martha was born on September 17, 1945 to the late Cyril and Louella (Lanning) McMullen in Dennison, Ohio.

            Martha Jean was a lifelong resident of Gilmore. She graduated from Port Washington in 1963 and after obtaining her bachelor’s Degree from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, she became a teacher for Newcomerstown Local Schools. She taught the first grade at the East School in the same classroom for thirty three years before retiring. She was a member of the Delta PHI Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for almost forty years.

            Martha Jean was a member of the Minksville Church of Christ in Cadiz, Ohio where she served as the minister’s wife for the past 29 years, and she was also a bible school teacher. Martha Jean loved doing outdoor yardwork, especially mowing the grass, growing flowers, and it was not uncommon to see Martha Jean on the tractor raking hay. She also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

            Surviving are Martha Jean’s husband of 29 years, Robert L. Main, whom she married on October 15, 1988, two sons Robert A. (Michelle) Main of Germantown, Tennessee, and Scott A. (Danielle) Main of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, four grandchildren Bree, Camden, Benjamin, Mara, brothers Carl (Anna) McMullen, and Glenn (Marjorie) McMullen, sister Faye (Bob) Welch, brothers-in-law Bill (Jody) Main, Ron (Peg) Main, and Don (Debbie) Main, and numerous nieces and nephews.

            Martha is only preceded in death by her parents.

            Services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 1 PM at the Newcomerstown Church of Christ, 475 S. Goodrich St, Newcomerstown, Ohio 43832. Evangelists Chuck Newell and Tom Arnold will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Peoli Cemetery, in Peoli, Ohio. Visitation, also at the church, will be held on Monday June 18, from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 9 PM and also one hour prior to the service.
