John Nick Malandrakis, 78, of Uhrichsville, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the Claymont Nursing and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. He was born on July 26, 1939, in Yorkville, Ohio. He is the son of the late Nick John Malandrakis and Viola Gikas Malandrakis Smith. John graduated from Yorkville High School in 1958, graduated from Ohio University in 1962, and obtained a Master’s Degree from Thiel College. An educator, John spent thirty years teaching math at Claymont High School in Uhrichsville. He was an avid reader and never stopped learning. He enjoyed thoroughly discussing math, science, sports, and astronomy with his family and friends.
John is survived by his sister, Sandra Helene (Paul) Straub of Palm City, Florida, a niece Debra (Rich) Gilmore of Gnadenhutten, and a great-nephew Jacob Gilmore of Denver, Colorado.
Along with his parents John is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Joanne and Charles W. “Bill” Lawver.
Following John’s wished he will be cremated and burial of his remains in the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery will take place at a later date. A memorial gathering will also be scheduled for family and friends at later date to celebrate John’s life.
