Ruth worked at Wheeling Steel for a short period of time, and she was a bus driver for Indian Valley Schools for fifteen years, where she retired from in 1993. Ruth was a member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church and the Rebecca Circle there, and a member of the Gnadenhutten Senior Citizens. In her younger years, Ruth played trumpet in a quartet that was part of Youth for Christ in Steubenville. She loved to travel and visited numerous places throughout her life. Ruth had been to California, Newfoundland, and Hawaii to name a few, and her last trip was to Nashville to go to the Grand Ole Opry to see Charley Pride perform.
Ruth married George Haynes in 1954, was separated and then married Harold “Gene” Veigel in 1971, both deceased now.
Ruth was blessed with two sons who survive, William Michael Haynes of Gnadenhutten, and Timothy Lucas Haynes of Dover. Also surviving are three stepchildren: Diane (Dave) Saffell, Randy Veigel, and Ronald Veigel, grandson Christopher Michael, special friends Bab and John Maxwell and their sons Travis (April) and Jereme (Amy) and their families, and best friends Norma, Eunice, Marlene, and Dee.
Preceding Ruth in death also are a half-brother Emmett Eugene Lucas, a stepdaughter Linda Wright, and her oldest and best friends, all the way from childhood, Helen Simmons Cusik and Thelma Smith Haskins.
