Mildred Catherine Miller, age 89, of Gnadenhutten died at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in the Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia. She was born April 23, 1925 on the family farm where she resided most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Adam Jacob Dietrich and Elizabeth Merkel Dietrich.

          Mildred was a 1943 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Port Washington where she served on the Board of Education for many years. She enjoyed quilting, making quilt pieces, and embroidering. Her passion was cooking and most that knew her said she was an awesome cook. She took great pride in her garden and canned many jars of fruits and vegetables. She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker and loved spending time with her family.

          Her husband, Walter “Jim” Frederick Miller died July 18, 1985. They were married April 23, 1949.

          Surviving are a daughter, Carol (William) Porter of Gnadenhutten; three grandchildren: Brittany (Nick) Mathews of Port Washington, Trey Porter of Charleston, West Virginia; and Brennae Porter of Gnadenhutten; a great-grandson, Cohen Mathews of Port Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by an infant brother; a son, Jimmy Miller in 1961 and a daughter, Elizabeth Miller in 1981.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Monday, July 28, 2014 in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Port Washington with Rev. Bob Buckley officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Port Washington. Friends may call for two hours prior to the service (10 a.m. to noon) at the church.
